The web is a vast source of educational content of varying quality and purposes. Educational content falls over a wide spectrum in terms of their curriculum coverage. On one extreme are online courses that can be followed by students, some of which lead to a certificate or degree. Next are contentware products that cover curricular units. Tool 4.2 provides guidance on how to identify and evaluate this kind of web-related content. On the other side of the spectrum are aspects of educational content that do not constitute in themselves self-standing instructional materials but cover a variety of items that serve as teaching/learning resources or building blocks of multimedia curricular materials.
Sometimes looking for appropriate materials is very difficult and frustrating.
This tool assists in the process of exploring the web for educational content by providing information regarding the following questions:
- What types of educational content can be explored on the web
- How to search for educational content
- How to record and store educational content from the web
- How to control access to the web by using filtering instruments
The Tool includes also a list of web sites for different types of educational content
